The Samuel Justice Trail runs from Franklin to Oil City in Venango County, and is easily accessible from major highways. See the Allegheny Valley Trails Association website for directions and maps. A bit noisier than it's sister Allegheny River Trail, the Samuel Justice Trail is otherwise similar in character. Wide, level, and paved, it still provides continuous views of the river, flanked by steep rock cuts and abundant Mountain Laurels. Numerous small oil wells are scattered along the trail, though you can't see many of them except when the leaves are down. Together with the Allegheny River Trail and the Sandy Creek Trail, this trail can be part of a good ride for those looking to log some miles. But, with riverside picnic areas and workout areas, it's also a good choice for those looking for a more relaxing day.
