Wildflowers of the Panhandle Trail

The currently completion portion of the Panhandle Trail runs from McDonald to Rennerdale / Walkers Mill, in Allegheny County. Trail is readily accessible from major roadways, with several convenient parking areas. See the Montour Trail website for directions.

This level and quiet trail ambles through several tiny communities along Robinson Run. Though it does not provide any spectacular vistas, it passes through woodlands for most of its length, making it seem much farther from the city than it really is. The Oakdale-to-Rennerdale section provides many benches and picnic areas. An abandoned, water-filled quarry has been turned into a nice resting spot near Walkers Mill.

  • Completed Length: 6 miles
  • Connecting Trails: The Montour Trail doesn't exactly connect yet, but you can get there by running for about two miles on the road. See the Montour Trail for directions. This can give you a 27-mile trail length.
  • Surface: Packed stone
  • Topography: 820 ft MSL at Walkers Mill; 995 ft at McDonald, for an average rise of 30 ft/mile.
